Glossary of acronyms & terms

A

ABAP

Advanced Business Application Programming - a high level programming language used to develop bespoke programs within the SAP System.

AMD

App Master Data is a PreBilt term for setting up the data to display on application screens for PreBilt 2.0 IM/WM/StRM.

B

Barcode

Global standard using a combination of numbers and a pattern of parallel lines of varying widths, used to identify commodities, most notably within stock control.

BC Set

A Business Configuration set is a management tool in SAP that allows users to record, save and share customisation settings. BC sets are a snapshot of customisation settings that can be used later as a template or customisation backup. BC sets can be used to set up PreBilt transactions in other systems.

C

Complex barcode

A barcode that contains multiple fields of data, usually (but not always) separated by a GS1 compliant application identifier.

D

Door/Bay

Loading or unloading bays within the warehouse building to allow loading or unloading of product to/from vehicles or trailers. Doors are relevant in WM, EWM & SRM.

EGR

Expected Goods Receipt in SAP EWM.

GS1

Global Standards 1. Barcodes defined by GS1 standards are very common. GS1 introduced the barcode in 1974, which encodes a product identification number and other data that can be scanned electronically, making it easier for products to be tracked, processed, and stored.

Handling Unit (HU)

This is a physical unit that is made up of a packaging material (for example a pallet) and the materials that sit upon it. Each Handling Unit has its own unique identifier which can be used to transfer and track the contents.

HTTP Services

Transaction SICF is used in SAP for creating and administrating HTTP services and virtual hosts for HTTP communication.

IMMB

IM Multi Bin Management – PreBilt solution for locating stock in a small warehouse/stock room.

Inbound Delivery

A document held within SAP that contains all data relating to the complete Inbound Delivery process. This can be created with reference to a purchase order (to receipt goods from a supplier).

Material

The goods that are the subject of business activity. The material can be traded, used in manufacture, consumed, or produced.

Mobile

In this context, the definition of a part of the solution/process that is transacted via a mobile device, i.e. not via a “normal” desktop computer.

Movelet

An application or group of application functionality used within the Movilizer platform.

Movilizer

The Movilizer platform is the system enabling remote/mobile access to SAP data and transactions; this is the software that can be run on the mobile devices throughout warehouse and manufacturing sites and is a user interface to SAP for operational users.

Movilizer Client

The Movilizer client is an app installed on the mobile device to run the Movilizer platform. The client to communicate with the Movilizer cloud and SAP during data transmission.

Neptune

The Neptune platform is a UI5 system enabling remote/mobile access to SAP data and transactions on PreBilt. It is the software that runs on the mobile devices throughout warehouse and manufacturing sites and is the user interface to SAP for operational users.

Outbound Delivery

A document held within SAP that contains all data relating to the complete Outbound Delivery process. This can be created with reference to a sales order (to transfer goods to a customer) or a Stock Transport Order (to transfer goods to another SAP Plant within the organisation).

Putaway

The action of putting stock into a Storage Bin via a Transfer Order. This is generally the result of a Goods Receipt in SAP. e.g., the putting of stock away following a receipt from a purchase order or a production order.

A process of moving quantities of material(s) to handling units.

SAP Connector

A piece of SAP certified ABAP code to connect SAP to the Movilizer cloud. This allows the provisioning of Movilizer apps from SAP to the Movilizer cloud and then to the device client ready to be used by the operators.

SAP Service

An internet services maintained within SAP (transaction SM59) that allows communication between SAP and the Movilizer Cloud.

SOA Manager

Transaction SOAMANAGER in SAP is the replacement of transaction LPCONFIG.

SOAMANAGER is all about configuring web services/proxies etc. and to be able to configure these web services certain nodes would need to be activated and that can only be done in SICF. The following tasks can only be run in SOAMANAGER:·

Semantic addressing using Identifiable Business Contexts (IBCs)

Addressing is handled on the basis business application entities that are represented as IBCs.

Configuring Service Providers and Consumers

Configuration that is specific to each server or business scenario.

Publishing Services

Setting up the connection to the Services Registry, configuring publication rules, publishing service definitions.

Accessing and Testing a Service

Check that a service is functioning correctly and find the URL of the configured service.

Logs and Traces

Manage and configure logs and traces for Web service provider and consumer calls.

Monitoring

Check for errors in the message exchange between a service provider and a service consumer.

Staging Lane

A physical area of the warehouse (usually in despatch) with separate lanes to store picked product ready for loading onto a vehicle or trailer.

Stock Room Management – S/4HANA solution for warehouse management.

Storage Bin

The Storage Bin is the smallest addressable unit in a warehouse. It identifies the exact location in the warehouse where goods can be stored.

Storage Location

A business unit which allows differentiation of material stocks within a Plant. This can either be physical (e.g., a Raw Materials store) or logical (e.g., a way of grouping all Finished Goods stocks across a SAP Plant).

Storage Unit (SU)

Represents different types of packages like carton, pallets etc. in a warehouse. Similar to a HU (Handling Unit) a storage unit is a logical grouping of one or several amounts of material such as a pallet or a container that can be managed within a warehouse as a unit that belongs together. Storage units can be either homogeneous (containing one material item only) or mixed (containing two or more material items). SU management is less complex than HU management.

Transfer Order (TO)

A document representing goods movements of stock in the warehouse. All the goods movements in the warehouse (for example, stock placements, stock removals, stock transfers are processed in the system using Transfer Orders.

Unit of Measure (UoM)

The unit used when assigning a quantity to some other object, such as 20 metres of cable or 46 kilograms of powder.
